Short answer
EGO is the brand that convinced a lot of Americans a battery mower could replace gas. Its mowers sit at or near the top of most cordless rankings, and its 56V battery system now runs everything from string trimmers to zero-turn riders.
I use EGO battery tools on my own lawn, so I know the batteries and the build quality. I haven’t tested this specific mower. This review is based on the published specs, independent reviews and owner feedback, and I’ve been strict about only using numbers I could confirm.
Below you’ll find a full look at the LM2135SP, then a short guide to the rest of the EGO walk-behind range so you can see whether a cheaper or bigger model fits you better.

Kit versions
EGO sells the same mower in several bundles:
- LM2135SP: one 7.5Ah battery and rapid charger
- LM2134SP-2: two 6.0Ah batteries and rapid charger
- LM2132SP-2: two 4.0Ah batteries and rapid charger
- LM2130SP: tool only, no battery or charger
If you already own EGO batteries from a blower or trimmer, the LM2130SP saves a good chunk of money.
Who it’s for
The LM2135SP fits:
- Lawns from about 1/4 to 1/2 acre
- Owners who mulch most of the time and want fine clippings
- Yards with gentle slopes, where self-propel helps
- Anyone already on, or planning to buy, EGO 56V tools
It’s overkill for a small, flat city lot. A lighter push mower makes more sense there; see my small-yard picks.
Cutting performance
The Select Cut system
The headline feature is the Select Cut blade stack. There’s an upper blade, plus a lower blade you can swap. EGO lists three lower blades for the Select Cut system: Mulching, High Lift Bagging and Extended Runtime. Two blades cutting at once chop clippings finer, which helps mulching.
ToolBox Buzz found that the dual blades produced noticeably finer clippings when mulching leaves. They saw no clear bagging advantage over the previous single-blade generation.
One thing to check when you buy: retailer listings differ on which lower blades come in the box. Acme Tools lists a mulching blade and a Tri-Cut blade with the upper blade.
Torque
EGO rates the LM2135SP at 7.0 ft-lb of cutting torque. ToolBox Buzz notes that’s up from 5.9 ft-lb on the previous generation. For context, EGO’s entry LM2114SP is rated at 6.0 ft-lb, and the step-up Select Cut XP (LM2156SP) is 8.3 ft-lb.
In normal weekly mowing, 7.0 ft-lb is plenty. If you often let grass get tall, the XP’s extra torque and bigger battery are worth considering.
Height adjustment
EGO says height adjusts with one hand, from 1 to 4 inches. That range covers typical home mowing heights for both cool-season and warm-season lawns, though very short golf-style cuts are outside it. My guide on how to mow a lawn covers heights by grass type.
Runtime and battery
EGO rates the LM2135SP at up to 60 minutes on the 7.5Ah battery and says it recharges in about 60 minutes on the rapid charger.
Real tests landed close:
- ToolBox Buzz: about 50 minutes at full self-propel speed in November, covering roughly 3 miles of mowing.
- Top Ten Reviews: finished one mow of a roughly 400 sq m (about 4,300 sq ft) yard on a charge but had to recharge partway through a second. Their recharge from 25% took a bit over an hour.
What that means for you: about a quarter acre per charge is a safe expectation with mulching and moderate self-propel speed. For half an acre, plan on a second battery or the two-battery LM2134SP-2 kit. Bagging, tall grass and hills shorten runtime.
Because EGO uses one 56V battery family, any EGO 56V battery fits. Bigger batteries mean longer runtime, at the cost of extra weight.
Self-propel: Touch Drive
Touch Drive engages when you press your palm against the handle. A dial sets the top speed, from 0.9 to 3.1 mph.
This is the part people either love or need time with. Top Ten Reviews said getting the self-propel right took trial and error. Owner summaries on ShopSavvy for EGO’s Touch Drive mowers mention controls that can feel too sensitive at first. Most people adjust after a few mows.
The upside is that the mower matches your walking pace once you’re used to it, without squeezing a bail lever the whole time.
Build, weight and storage
EGO doesn’t publish the weight. ToolBox Buzz lists 62.5 lb, and Top Ten Reviews weighed the mower at 26 kg plus a 2.9 kg battery, or about 64 lb total. Either way, it’s heavy to drag backward or lift into a truck, so self-propel isn’t optional on this one.
The handle folds flat and the mower stores compactly. ToolBox Buzz noticed one change from the previous model: the carrying handle moved, so you can no longer hang the mower vertically on a wall hook.
The mower is rated IPX4 for weather resistance, has push-button start and LED headlights. Top Ten Reviews found assembly quick and easy and called the mower solid.
What owners like and dislike
Owner feedback for EGO’s Touch Drive mowers is broadly positive. Based on review summaries from ShopSavvy and the reviews above:
What owners praise:
- Strong cutting, including thick or wet grass
- Quiet running compared with gas
- Fine clippings when mulching
- No gas, oil changes or fumes
- Built-in LED lights for dawn and dusk mowing
Common complaints:
- Weight, especially when moving the mower without self-propel
- Battery capacity fading over the years, with costly replacements
- Self-propel draining the battery faster
- Touch Drive feeling too sensitive at first
- Some doubts about long-term durability given the amount of plastic
ToolBox Buzz called the LM2135SP the best performing and best thought-out electric mower they had tested at the time. Top Ten Reviews scored it well for power and cutting but lower for charging time and ease of use.
Pros and cons
The good
- Two-blade Select Cut gives fine mulched clippings
- 7.0 ft-lb torque and Touch Drive 0.9-3.1 mph
- Works with every EGO 56V battery
The bad
- Heavy at about 62 lb
- Only one battery in the kit
- Touch Drive takes practice
Price
Reviewers and retailers have listed the LM2135SP kit at around $560 to $750, depending on store and timing. The tool-only LM2130SP costs less, and two-battery kits cost more. Timing matters: see when lawn mowers go on sale.
When I checked EGO’s own site, it showed this kit and several others as “Coming Soon,” so retailers and EGO dealers are the practical place to buy.
Warranty
EGO lists a 5-year limited tool warranty and a 3-year limited battery warranty for the LM2135SP. Some newer EGO models, like the LM2156SP and LM2236SP, extend battery coverage to 5 years with registration. Commercial use gets shorter terms. Register the mower and keep your receipt.
The rest of the EGO mower line-up
EGO’s mower comparison page lists these walk-behinds:
| Model | Deck | Battery in kit | Runtime | Torque | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| LM2114 | 21″ | 6.0Ah | 55 min | 6.0 ft-lb | Flat lawns, push only |
| LM2114SP | 21″ | 6.0Ah | 50 min | 6.0 ft-lb | Budget self-propelled |
| LM2125SP | 21″ | 7.5Ah | 60 min | 6.0 ft-lb | Touch Drive, single blade |
| LM2135SP | 21″ | 7.5Ah | 60 min | 7.0 ft-lb | Most lawns (this review) |
| LM2156SP | 21″ | 10.0Ah | 75 min | 8.3 ft-lb | Thick grass, bigger lawns |
| LM2236SP | 22″ composite | 10.0Ah | 75 min | 10.6 ft-lb | Larger lawns, 10-year deck warranty |
| LM2206SP | 22″ aluminum | 10.0Ah | 70 min | 11.1 ft-lb | Lifetime deck guarantee |
| LM2244SP-2 | 22″ composite | Two 6.0Ah | 90 min | 10.6 ft-lb | Longest runtime |
| LM3004SP-2 | 30″ composite | Two 6.0Ah | 75 min | 13.2 ft-lb | Wide open lawns |
Step down: LM2114SP
The 21-inch LM2114SP is EGO’s entry self-propelled mower. It has a single blade, a dual-lever self-propel you can engage from either hand, 6.0 ft-lb of torque and up to 50 minutes on a 6.0Ah battery. It cuts 1.25 to 4 inches in 7 positions, per EGO’s LM2114SP page. It’s the one to get if you mostly bag or side-discharge and want to save money.
Step up: Select Cut XP (LM2156SP)
The Select Cut XP adds a 10.0Ah battery, 8.3 ft-lb of torque and up to 75 minutes. Pro Tool Reviews ran it through thick 8-inch St. Augustine at 1.5 inches without bogging, and got just over 75 minutes in lighter cutting. Their main complaint was weak side discharge.
Go bigger: 22-inch LM2236SP
The LM2236SP has a 22-inch composite deck that won’t dent or rust, 10.6 ft-lb of torque, ECO, Normal and Turbo blade settings and Precision Mulch Control that dials between full bagging and full mulching. It carries a 10-year deck warranty. TechGearLab rated EGO’s 22-inch Power+ 1000 its top mower for large yards.
EGO LM2135SP vs the competition
The main rivals are Ryobi’s RY40HPLM02K2 and Greenworks’ LM2116S. Ryobi’s kit includes two 6Ah batteries and is rated for 75 minutes, which beats the LM2135SP’s single-battery runtime. Greenworks offers a steel deck. I compare all three in EGO vs Ryobi vs Greenworks, and you’ll find more options in the best cordless lawn mowers list.
My verdict
- Type Self-propelled
- Power Battery
- Deck 21"
- Voltage 56V
- Battery 1 x 7.5Ah
- Runtime Up to 60 min
The EGO LM2135SP is the sweet spot of EGO’s range. It gets the two-blade Select Cut deck and Touch Drive without the price of the XP or the 22-inch models, and 7.0 ft-lb of torque is enough for regular mowing.
Buy it if your lawn is up to about half an acre, you mulch most of the time and you like the idea of one battery for all your yard tools. Add a second battery, or choose the LM2134SP-2 kit, if you’re near the top of that range.
Skip it if your yard is small and flat (the LM2114 push mower is enough), or if you regularly fight tall, thick grass (the LM2156SP is better).
FAQ
Which EGO mower is the best?
For most lawns, the LM2135SP Select Cut. It balances price, power and runtime. The LM2156SP Select Cut XP is better for thick grass, and the 22-inch LM2236SP suits larger lawns.
How long does an EGO mower battery last per charge?
The LM2135SP is rated at up to 60 minutes on its 7.5Ah battery. ToolBox Buzz got about 50 minutes at full self-propel speed. Tall grass, bagging and hills reduce that.
How much does the EGO LM2135SP weigh?
EGO doesn't publish the weight. ToolBox Buzz lists 62.5 lb, and Top Ten Reviews measured about 64 lb with the battery.
Do all EGO batteries fit all EGO mowers?
EGO says its mowers work with all EGO 56V ARC Lithium batteries. A bigger battery adds runtime.
What is EGO Select Cut?
It's EGO's two-blade cutting system: an upper blade plus a swappable lower blade. The two blades cut clippings finer, which helps mulching. Lower blade options include mulching, high-lift bagging and extended-runtime blades.
What's the difference between the LM2135SP and LM2125SP?
Both use Touch Drive and a 7.5Ah battery with up to 60 minutes of runtime. The LM2135SP adds the two-blade Select Cut system and more torque (7.0 vs 6.0 ft-lb).
What warranty does EGO give on mowers?
The LM2135SP has a 5-year limited tool warranty and a 3-year limited battery warranty. Some newer models extend battery coverage to 5 years with registration.
Can an EGO mower cut wet grass?
It's rated IPX4 for weather resistance, and owners say it handles damp grass well. Wet grass drains the battery faster and can clump, so dry grass gives better results.
Can you store an EGO mower upright?
It folds flat for compact storage. ToolBox Buzz noted that the redesigned LM2135SP can no longer hang vertically on a wall hook because the carry handle moved.
Is an EGO mower worth it over gas?
For lawns up to about half an acre, owners and reviewers say yes: it's quieter, starts with a button and needs little maintenance. See my electric vs gas lawn mower comparison for the full trade-offs.
